District Health Services Administration and Management
The district has the District Health Committee as its advisory committee and the District Health Management Team (DHMT) as the technical planning body of health activities in the district.
The DHMT is headed by the District Director of Health Service (DDHS).
There are six (6) health Administrative Sub-districts in the district. The table below shows the various sub districts, communities, and the number of facilities under them.
Functions of District Health Administration
- Ensure the equitable delivery of high quality, cost-effective district health services;
- Assist the District Health Board or any equivalent policy structure at the district to understand the main health and management issues in the district so that they are able to assist the DHMT better;
provide the District Health Board with relevant and updated information on national health policies;
- Account to the DHB for the performance of the district health system in accordance with the health action plan;
- Work closely with the Provincial Health Office and other districts on matters related to general management of district health services.
District Health Management Team
The District Health Management Team is responsible for the day-to-day management of the dis- trict health system. Common DHMT functions include planning, supervision, budgeting and finance control as well as problem-solving and crisis management. The DHMT is answerable to the District Health Board for day-to-day management of the district health system
Functions of DHMT
- Initiation and promotion of partnerships with other health providers and other sectors to enhance collaboration and communication at all levels in the district, establishing functional committees to enhance community participation and supporting all initiatives for local mobilization of resources;
- Human resource management involving recruitment, deployment, supervision, counselling, conflict resolution, disciplinary action, identification of district training needs, staff development planning, career development and coordination of in-service training;
- Regular management of budgetary resources (personnel, drugs, vaccines and medical supplies etc.); monitoring of all health performance in the district and taking corrective action where required.
- Strengthening provision, management and use of health information and health systems research to support evidence-based planning and appropriate choice of health interventions;
Vision
The vision of the Ghana Health Service in the Fanteakwa North District is to create a society in which preventable diseases and avoidable deaths are kept to the bearest minimum and where every citizen has access to a quality driven, results oriented, close to client focused and affordable health service by a well-motivated workforce.
Mission
To improve the overall health status of all persons living in the Fanteakwa North District through provision and access to quality health care delivered in a humane, efficient and effective manner by well- trained, friendly, and highly motivated and client-oriented personnel in collaboration with all stakeholders.
