INTRODUCTION
Illiteracy not only limit the full development of individuals and their participation in society, but also has repercussions throughout life, affecting a person’s family environment restricting access to the benefits of development and hindering the enjoyment of other human right. Adult illiteracy not only affect income and awareness of right, but also leads to poor nutrition and health, due to illiterate lack of knowledge regarding their own health and hygiene and that of their families.
Non-formal learning has experiential learning activities that foster the development of skills and knowledge. It helps in building the confidence and abilities among the youth. It also helps in developing interpersonal skills among the young people as they learn to interact with peers outside the class and with adult in the community.
COMMUNITY ENTRY
The introduction of girl child education was well embraced when the director and staff visited some of the communities to create awareness. This will help to ensure equal access to education, eradicate illiteracy among women and improve women’s access to vocational training, science, technology and continuing education.
This will encourage the development of non-discriminatory education and training in the district. This is specifically tailored to meet the educational needs of rural women through the provision of functional literacy training assistance. The overall goal is to empower women in order to enhance their capacity to improve their standard of life.
AIMS & OBJECTIVES OF THE GIRL CHILD EDUCATION
- Improve the basic and functional literacy skills of rural women.
- Promote poverty eradication through literacy empowerment
- Empower women to make contribution to their communities
- Raise health awareness, particularly reproductive, among women.
- Raise public awareness about the importance of adult female literacy for community development.
