FANTEAKWA NORTH DISTRICT CLEAN-UP EXERCISE

CLEAN-UP EXERCISE

As the Environmental Health and Sanitation Unit of the Fanteakwa North District Assembly, we are committed to promoting hygiene, good health and clean environment in our communities. We believe that a good working environment is essential for delivering productive and client-oriented services. Therefore, we collaborated with Zoomlion Ghana to conduct a clean-up exercise on the 14th December 2023 at 7:30am in the district capital. This helps us improve the environmental situation and the well-being of our people.

PURPOSE

The objective of the exercise is to improve on the environmental standards, prevent further pollution and infectious diseases from spreading as well as to ensure good hygienic practices in the communities.

The personnel present during the Clean-up Exercise were;

  • The District Chief Executive
  • The District Coordinating Director
  • Environmental Health and Sanitation Unit
  • Area council chairman
  • FNDA Staff
  • Zoomlion Ghana Limited
  • Hon. Assembly members
  • NADMO
  • Ghana Police Service
  • GPRTU
  • Community members

At the start of the exercise, the volunteers were given sanitary tools such as standing brooms, rakes, shovel, dustbins, wheel barrows and personal protective equipment (PPE) such as nose masks and gloves.

Areas where the exercise took place are;

  • Market square
  • Main station
  • Principal street
  • U drain at the main station

Activities carried out are;

  • Sweeping, gathering and disposing of refuse to the communal container for onward disposal to the final disposal site.
  • Picking of polythene bags
  • Desilting of choked drains

After the exercise, the District Chief Executive applauded all participants for their commitment and time for a successful exercise. He further entreated community members to avoid crude dumping in other to prevent flooding and disease outbreak in the District. The District Coordinating Director encouraged community members to get involve in every activities organized by the Assembly.

OBSERVATION

RECOMMENDATION

  • The District Assembly should continue collaboration with Zoomlion Ghana and other institutions to carry out clean up exercises to improve on the sanitation standards in the community
  • District assembly should continue quarterly clean up exercise to prevent outbreak of diseases.

CONCLUSION

We urge the authorities to implement the above recommendation to reduce diseases outbreak.
