The Department undertook adaptive trials on 6 varieties of tomatoes namely; Victory, Raja, Ansaa, Kwabena kwabena, Red Queen and the local variety kumkum. The trial began in August at Obooho with a total of 30 farmers visiting the site. In October, harvest began and produce harvested from each variety were weighed and comparisons made. Farmers selected varieties based on yield and hardiness of varieties. Amongst all varieties, Victory and Raja were the best performing and the local varieties kwabena kwabena and kumkum were the least performing. Stackable crates were also introduced to farmers to encourage their usage and reduce post-harvest losses during transport.
